DO IT ROCKAPELLA!

Other the Jacks, the next most famous group is the New York City group Rockapella. Singing since 1986, the members of Rockapella have changed many times. The group was founded by Sean Altman and Elliott Kerman, both students at Brown University involved in the High Jinks (an A Cappella group) and the first 4 members were: Sean, El, David Stix, and Steve Keyes with occasional vocal percussion by David Yasbek.

In 1988, David Stix left the group and bass singer Barry Carl took his place. The group did well, but they still didn't make their name big until about 1992 with the signing of a contract to sing the theme song for "Where in the World is Carman Sandiego?". In 1991, Steve Keyes left the group, bringing in the talented Scott Leonard. Rockapella would remain singing on WITWICS until 1996, when the show's final curtain fell.

In late 1993, the group signed a permanant vocal percussionist from Five O'Clock Shadow named Jeff Thacher. Jeff didn't appear on WITWICS until the next season or so. With the new addition of the VPist, the groups quintet was complete and their name was gaining world-wide fame. Rockapella traveled almost non-stop around the US performing in city after city, night after night. Before Jeff had come, the group had cut 5 albums released in Japan. Not only were they big in the US, but they were big in Japan as well.

In 1997, founder Sean Altman decided to go on as a soloist. He left the guys to find a replacement tenor. Sean's timing was bad, considering the guys were right in the middle or touring and had reached the peak of their fame. It devastated fans to see Sean go, but those who were faithful still follow his music. Rockapella did find a replacement tenor. A guy from Florida named Kevin Wright. In no time at all, Rockapella cut their 8th album, 1st with Kevin, complete with new tunes and a new sound.

Rockapella is one of the hardest-working, most popular groups around today. They recently did commercials such as Folgers and the Almond Joy/Mounds tunes. To me, this group is "So Much Better". Check out Rockapella's site.
